Local means not generally wide spread, relating to a specific location; serving or representing a limited and specific area:”It, being a local newspaper, does not carry national and international news.”
“Many terrorist groups have their own local radios to spread communal hatred.”
Locale, on the other hand, means a specific place relating to a site or a particular event: ” Thomas Hardy is famous for the minute description of the locales of the situation in his novels.”
“The director has gone to countryside to select locale for a Punjabi song.”
