- You need to have really high reading speed.
Not necessarily! CAT does not test your reading speed. Rather, CAT tests your ability to comprehend text. The average passage in CAT Exam will have around 600-900 words, which means you have around 5 minutes to read the passage. Therefore, understanding the passage is more important than reading it quickly.
- You need to take a lot of mock tests!
While it is essential to take CAT Mock Tests, it is more important to analyze your performance after the mock test. Analyzing your performance gives you your all-India standing, helps you identify your strong and weak areas and determine your speed and accuracy.
- You can’t clear CAT if your English isn’t fluent.
Not true! Your ability to speak English fluently is not an indicator of how well you can score in your Verbal Ability section in CAT. With just a few exceptions like the Sentence correction and Vocabulary, the VA section is mostly concerned with the understanding of the context than with the English.
However, it is recommended that work on your spoken English and improve it as you may require it during your group discussions and interview post your CAT Exam.
- CAT is an extremely difficult exam to crack!
Yet another common misconception among CAT aspirants is that the exam is difficult. This mindset needs to be changed, as CAT is more about your attitude and mindset than your intelligence. The questions asked in CAT are from the 10th standard syllabus.
- CAT is a piece of cake for Engineers!
Wrong! Engineers find only the Quantitative Aptitude/Mathematics section of CAT easier owing to their graduation discipline. And this is the only advantage that Engineers have over other students.
