Difference Between Delegate and RelegateDelegate is an individual acting in behalf of another person; to give authority to another individual: “The Prime Minister appointed a delegate on his behalf for the convention.”

Relegate is to assign an idea or a concept to a place of insignificance or to put something out of one’s mind: “Bolton wanderers were relegated to the 2nd division of the premier league.”

As a delegate to the conference, I was concerned about the efforts of a minority to relegate the discussion of new books for the library to the bottom of the agenda.
