CAT Question a day

Quantitative Aptitude Question of the day

CAT Question a Day

A sum of money becomes Rs 6000 in three years and Rs 8000 in further 5 years when invested at simple interest. Find the rate percent per annum.

a. 7.5%
b. 8.33%
c. 9.75%
d. 5.67%

Answer and Explanation

Option b

Explanation:

The interest for 5 years = Rs 2000

So, the interest for one year = Rs 400

Hence, the interest for 3 years = Rs 1200

So, in the amount of first 3 years, the Simple Interest = Rs 1200

Hence, the principal = 6000 – 1200 = Rs 4800

The rate percent = (400/4800) x 100 = 8.33%
