Canter & Cantor

Canter is a gait slower than a gallop but faster than a trot: “In order to conserve his energy, he walked at an easy canter.”

Cantor is the official soloist or chief singer of the liturgy in a synagogue, or in common parlance, ‘the musical director of a choir’: “Most Bollywood directors served as cantors before they became established music directors in the industry.”
