Cannon & Canon

Cannon is a large mounted gun that shoots heavy metal or stone balls and which was once a common military weapon: “In past wars, armies did not use guns and tanks but rather depended on weaponary such as cannons.”

Canon means an accepted rule or guide about how people should behave or about how something should be done: “People should make the canon of honesty as their guiding spirit in life.”

Canon also has meanings with relations to the Christian Church. It means ‘A priest who is a member of a cathedral chapter’ or ‘A collection of books accepted as holy scripture especially the books of the Bible recognized by any Christian church as genuine and inspired.’
