Accelerate means to make anything in motion move faster. We accelerate our cars or bikes, don’t we?
Exhilarate, on the other hand, means to cause someone to feel very happy and excited: “When we came to know that we had become grandparents, we were exhilarated. ”
When one accelerates ones bike, the rush of air gushing past one’s visage does exhilarate for sure.
