Passage:
Punctually at midday he opened his bag and spread out his professional equipment, which consisted of a dozen cowrie shells, a square piece of cloth with obscure mystic charts on it, a note book, and a bundle of Palmyrawriting. His forehead was resplendent with sacred ash and vermilion, and his eyes sparkled with a sharp abnormal gleam which was really an outcome of a continual searching look for customers, but which his simple clients took to be a prophetic light and felt comforted. The power of his eyes was considerably enhanced by their position placed as they were between the painted forehead and the dark whiskers which streamed down his cheeks: even a half-wit’s eyes would sparkle in such a setting. To crown the effect, he wound a saffron-coloured turban around his head. This colour scheme never failed. People were attracted to him as bees are attracted to cosmos or dahlia stalks.

In question 2, option 3 should be the answer as it is very clearly mentioned in the paragraph that even half wit eyes will sparkle in such a setting-painted forehead and the dark whiskers which streamed down his cheeks.
in q no.3 option b should be the ans because any professional take out his tool to start his work not to display

a. he wants to indicate his day has started
b. he opened to take out his things (this is the physical action he took up).
Thus, the answer is option (d).
This passage is taken from an astrologers day of malgudi days…..had read it when i was in school…..feeling nostalgic
in question 3, it says ” punctually at midday he opened his bag”, it actually indicates that he starts his business at that point of day,… so i guess answer should be option (b)..

Actually, both the answers are correct in this case. The question reflects the same.
“to take out things for display” can we make out such a purpose from passage itself? Even in broader context those things are his worl equipment indicating the start of his day and are not for display, so answer should be (b) only.
