Pommel has the following meanings:-
1. To beat; to pummel: “When the police men tried to pommel the rowdy crowd they were attacked with brick bats and stones.”
2. The high, round part on the upper front part of a saddle; a saddlebow: “I could not drive the cycle comfortably as the pommel of its saddle was too high to reach the pedal easily.”

Pummel , on the other hand, means to beat, or the act of beating, as with the fists; to pommel: “The police officer did not allow the angry people to pummel the chain snatcher.”
